As a former DSA ADI Supervising Examiner, I provide in car ADI Driving instructor Client Centred Learning and coaching techniques training.
DVSA are now promoting that ADI,s deliver Client Centred Learning (CCL) and coaching procedures.
So what does this mean to you as the Driving Instructor. The focus is on the delivery and use of a ‘client centred’ approach on driving lessons. The standard document published by DVSA sets out what instructors will need to be able to do, and the knowledge they need in order to deliver training. Areas such as devising effective lesson plans, understanding different learning styles and needs, and giving clear instructions and constructive feedback.
Client centred learning and coaching techniques are designed to assist your pupils to plan their learning and take responsibility for their learning. Coaching and CCL will help the learning process to go beyond the standard driving lessons and the L test. Client centred will increase your pupil’s personal self-determination and improve their own independence.
We all know that there is not a ‘one size fits all’ learner. Each learner develops differently and as such requires a different approach to their learning.
Client centred is not purely coaching. Coaching is just one skill that is used in a client centred approach. A good client centred approach would include many skills such as guidance, instructing, coaching, Q&A, mentoring and prompting to name just a few of the skills needed.
So where do you go from here?
We offer 1-2-1 Client Centred Learning and coaching development to enhance your existing skills.
