Defensive Driving Courses
4 Hour half day practical session
The In Vehicle Driver Training starts with a vehicle number plate eyesight check. A short driving assessment will take place to establish an idea of the student’s driving ability. If necessary, a demonstration drive with a commentary to demonstrate just how far ahead it is possible to plan. The principles of a "Systematic" approach based on the DVSA driving manual. The student will then take a second turn behind the wheel and receive helpful tuition and advice aimed at improving observation, anticipation, and forward planning. In the case of commercial vehicle drivers, specific manoeuvring exercises can be built into the programme as this is often a high claims area.
The session ends with feedback and a review of the session.
The driver can use their own car which must be insured for business use. The trainer may not be insured to drive the vehicle, but will be able to give a commentary drive from the passenger seat. This half day format is popular with many companies where a high proportion of drivers use their own car for work purposes. To maximise value for money aim for one instructor to train one driver in the morning and one in the afternoon, meeting at same location.
Driver Reports
After the short course, each driver will receive a Certificate of Attendance and a full written report which will highlight any areas that can be improved. If we identify any drivers who we feel would benefit from further driver development, we can arrange a further in vehicle session.
You will also receive feedback on other items such as vehicle condition, eyesight checks and any other safety related suggestions that may help.
